Karachi Incident with Female Polio Worker
According to police reports, the men allegedly misbehaved with and resisted a polio worker on duty. In light of these events, Magistrate Wajid Ali Channa released them after hearing their defense counsel’s request. They were remanded under Section 63 CrPC against Rs50,000 personal bond each.
The court found no grounds for further police custody or judicial remand based on the FIR and discharged the suspects following a comprehensive discussion with both parties present in the courtroom. The IO is expected to file an investigation report within lawful timeframes as per the order’s stipulations, which will be shared upon completion of his duties.
Police claimed that on Wednesday evening at Nazimabad police station:
- Mohammed Saad and Shan Mohammed had allegedly assaulted a polio worker who was administering vaccines to children in their home during the anti-polio drive, despite an order issued by Magistrate Channa. The women were taken against her will within lockdown protocols on Tuesday night for safety measures as per police directives and released under strict instructions after court intervention yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).
The above facts showcase the necessity to adhere strictly to legal mandates, protect health workers performing their duties amidst public emergencies. In addition:
