Karachi’s Water Supply Projects: Senate Committee’s Directive
- The Senate Standing Committee on Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives directed to expedite work on all PSDP projects related to the provision of drinking water in Karachi. They emphasized close coordination among relevant departments for quick resolution of citizens’ basic needs.
- Speed up disbursement funds for flood-affected house reconstruction in Sindh Province.
- Transfer administrative control of Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Limited (SIDCL) to provincial government.
The committee, chaired by Senator Quratulain Marri, reviewed the status of PSDP funds disbursement and project progress for Sindh Province FY 2024-25. The meeting saw participation from various key figures including Najam Ahmed Shah, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, CEO Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation Assadullah, among others.
Senator Qurat-ul-Ain Marri highlighted the importance of these projects for Sindh’s infrastructure and urged officers to collaborate effectively to eliminate obstacles and expedite project completion. The committee acknowledged fund allocations including Rs 171.461 billion for PSDP 2cv-2024-25 in Sindh, with significant releases already made.
The session concluded with an affirmation of the need for unified efforts across government levels to meet Karachi’s and Sindh’s developmental challenges.
