The KMC initiative includes shifting power sources for the city’s vital infrastructure to renewable energy options as part of their efforts to reduce electricity costs and environmental impact.
Ultimately: With completion expected by January, four hospitals along with street lights on three major roads under its administrative control are being converted into solar-powered systems powered by the KMC building’s installation of a 150 kW system (with additional 80 kWh in net metering through KElectric).
A total of 259 solar plates have been installed on the roof, producing approximately 650 to 700 units daily. The project extends beyond municipal buildings with installation at Kidney Hill Park and other recreational places. Future plans include transitioning roads in these areas as well into a state-of-the-art system.
The Mayor highlighted that major cities worldwide are adopting alternative energy sources like solar panels, wind energy etc., emphasizing on the ease of harnessing solar energy particularly beneficial for Pakistan’s climate. The provincial efforts to increase use were also commended by him as impressive. - “Projects under annual development programme including Baldia Town and Keamari are being executed.”
The Mayor announced that projects ranging from Malir Expressway, Korangi Causeway, which is close to completion; along with other independent and collaborative efforts within the city’s districts. He appeals for focus on progress against challenges driven by hate politics in ensuring development continues unhindered.
